Weekend Review - December 17th
12/17/2018by Liam Manderville

The South Grenville Rangers finished this weekend 1-1, closing it out with a 3-1 win over West Carleton at home. SGR continues to own top spot in the NCJHL’s Western Division, with Sunday’s win improving their record to 14-4-1. “These two points will get us back on our feet after the Vankleek Hill game [Saturday].” Said SGR forward Chris Row, who scored the third and final goal on Sunday vs. West Carleton. Captain Carson Pickup buried the first goal of the night, with Sam Martin adding on the second. Assists went to Sayeau, Ranger, Edmonds, Fenlong (2), and Clement.

After Saturday night’s 6-0 loss, it was important for The Rangers to come back strong at home Sunday night and pick themselves back up. SGR played a stronger team game Sunday, connecting on passes and controlling the puck well. The physical play of the team was a bright spot as well, finishing lots of hits and getting under the skin of the opponents. While this game was a turnaround from Saturday night, head coach Ron Harrison still felt as though the team’s play hasn’t been up to the SGR standard. “The last couple of weekends have been far from our best play as a group, and today was no exception. We were able to get the two points, but it wasn’t the Rangers hockey we expect as a team.” Said Harrison via text. Goaltender Samuel Limoges-Ring stuck out this game, allowing only one goal midway through the third period despite going down briefly with what looked like a minor upper body injury in the first.

The South Grenville Rangers are back in action next weekend, matching up with The Inferno again on the road next Saturday before returning home to host the North Dundas Rockets on Sunday. The puck will drop for Sunday’s game at 4:40pm on Minor Hockey Night. The ROW invites kids of all ages to attend and show our SGR pride, and kids get in free when wearing their team sweaters! - Liam Manderville
