The South Grenville Rangers came away from the holiday weekend 2-0, extending their record to 16-4-1. Game one of the weekend was on the road vs. West Carleton Inferno, where SGR swept through with a resounding 6-0 win. Goals came from Cameron Dillon (2), Jordan Dodge, Mathieu Giroux, Brody Ranger, and Conor Roche. With only 13 skaters in the lineup, SGR came through with a strong team game, as well as a great performance between the pipes from Sam Limoges-Ring
Sunday night was Minor Hockey Night at the Ingredion, a successful event for SGR, and an equally successful game. Facing the West Division’s second-place team, The North Dundas Rockets, The Rangers had to preform to come out on top. And preform they did. SGR came out on top 6-3 vs The Rockets, with 2 goals from Jordan Dodge and Sam ‘Buzzy’ Martin, while Noah Edmonds and Jack Finnerty each added one as well. GM Lucas Stitt was proud of the blue, red, and white after Sunday’s game, saying via text,
“It was a big game, and a lot of fun to play in front of our packed crowd. The boys may have been too fired up after one of the best pregame speeches I’ve ever heard by Coach Ron (Harrison), and it took us a period to settle in. Once again our depth took over, and in the third period we were able to wear them down and break the game wide open”
SGR assistant captain Cam Dillon, who had 6 points this weekend, also spoke on the importance of these games.
“We knew we needed the four points up for grabs (this weekend). These past couple weeks weren’t our full playing potential, and despite the score Saturday we still didn’t play our best game. Going into Sunday everyone was fired up. The fans and kids were into it, and we really fed off of their energy. I feel as though Sunday’s game was our best of the year.”
Stitt also had high praise for the energy the organization has brought in, despite their home rink moving from The Leo, featuring The Row, being closed down. “I’m proud of this entire organization. From our roster, staff, volunteers, ownership, affiliates, and our fans. From a 9-21-2 record last year to our 16-4-1 record we have entering Christmas, it really speaks to the magic happening with the SGR. I’m very thankful to have my name associated with this team”
While the Leo Boivin, the former home of The Rangers has been closed, SGR has made a new home at Cardinal’s Ingredion Centre. While the Leo has been famous for The Row, South Grenville’s fan base has also moved into the Ingredion, packing the track behind the home net.
The entire South Grenville Rangers organization would like to wish our fans, families, and those who have helped or supported the organization thus far a merry Christmas! We invite everyone to come out January 5th to #PackTheTrack vs. Gatineau Hull-Volant! Puck drop is at 8:40pm! - Liam Manderville
